The main tourism season in Canada is during the summer months between May to October to take advantage of the warmer temperatures in most parts of the country. In the province of Alberta, tourists can take advantage of both summer and winter which offer quite different experiences.
During my 10 day adventure in February in Alberta, I spent my time exploring within and around Jasper National Park. A few of my favourite activities were exploring the Maligne Canyon which is normally gushing with water in the summer, but offers walkable ice caves in the winter. The water level of the canyon is much lower and it is completely frozen. There are many places in and around Jasper National Park to do snowshoeing and hiking.
During the winter season Ski Marmot is an ideal ski spot for ski vacations. It is located about 25 minutes from the town of Jasper and offers lift tickets & passes, rentals, a snow school and accommodations. If you are looking for a high-end accommodation within the park, the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge offers many winter activities and a great winter getaway spot with luxury accommodations and spa services. It is approximately a 15 minute drive from the town of Jasper. The lake is frozen in the winter which creates for a very large skating rink. If you don’t plan on staying at the lodge consider checking it out after a day of exploring and enjoy a hot chocolate in their main dining lodge. The hot chocolate is to die for!
