Photos to Inspire You To Visit Marseille & Avignon

The South of France is rich in vistas of mainland, coast and historical architecture. My reason for visiting the South was because of my fiance who was sailing with the Canadian Navy and had a 2 week vacation in between his deployment in April and he informed me the ship would dock in Toulon and he could meet me in Marseille where we could explore a little bit of the South for a couple of days before starting our 10 day journey to Italy. To fly from Marseille to Venice was just over an hour flight so very close. Out flights for 2 passengers where about $150 CAD per person one way. We ventured into downtown Marseille and Avignon.

April is the perfect time of year to visit. It’s about 20-25 degrees celsius and it’s not at it’s highest tourist season so there are less crowds. The train system is very good so if you wish to travel around this is one of the best options.

Marseille (view from Notre-Dame de la Garde)

I enjoyed the view a lot! The weather was so great in Marseille.

Notre-Dame de la Garde. The design inside of this structure is worth a look.

A view of Avignon’s fortress and lush greenery surrounding it.

Talk a walk on the Pont d’Avignon 12th century bridge where you’ll find panoramic scenery of the river and city.
