The day before my 8-day tour around Cuba started, I had only one full day to get to know Havana as the tour I booked was focused on the Eastern and Central parts of Cuba. One supplier I use when I’ve got limited time in a destination is Urban Adventures (part of the Intrepid Group) which is a company that offers various day tour excursions for an experience to escape the tourist crowds and connect with the city with a local leading the excursion. Some tours can be a couple of hours, half a day, or a full 8-hour experience.
The tour I did with my fiancé in Havana was the “Old Havana Walking Tour” which started at noon and lasted for about 3.5 hours. Our guide Luis was from the Havana area and took us all over Old Havana while explaining Havana’s history, interesting facts, and even to a cigar sommelier which was not included in the tour. A few of us had an interest to find out where we could learn how to smoke them and he was more than happy to take us there as an extra bonus.
Some of the sites that are included on the tour:
- Gran Teatro
- Parque Central
- Bacardi building
Apart from visiting various sites we had lunch and a cocktail included at a local restaurant in Old Havana at the Art Pub. The cost of the tour per person is about $65.00 CAD and runs everyday of the week however it can become fully booked in advance which in this case I would recommend booking online in advance to secure a spot and receive your vouchers. The meeting and ending points are located in Old Havana. Old Havana is not so big that you need to take a taxi everywhere but if you wish to take one there will be plenty of friendly local taxi drivers willing to take you where you want to go. Most of the taxis are the older classic cars.
